Abstract: Gladys Yang is one of the “foreign” translators in the contemporary Chinese translation history. The translation she independently completed and did in collaboration with Yang Xianyi, her husband, range from classical Chinese literature to modern literature covering almost all genres. Gladys, who was also the performer of national translation program, was de individualized to some degree owing to highlighting Yang Xianyi in the previous research. This paper, from the perspective of national translation program, attempts to focus on her independent translation. Gladys' translation, as an indispensable effort of New China's national translation program, is an illustration of selective adaption to national translation program.
