English Translation of Forklore in Mo Yan's Novels Translated by Howard Goldblatt——Based on the Perspective of Cultural Fax

Abstract: English translation strategies of four types of forklore in Life and Death Wearing me out translated by Howard Goldblatt are observed in this paper, in which the reasons of imbalanced researches on Mo Yan' novels are analyzed so as to arouse academic concerns on the translation of forklore in Literature and promote a further exploration on the effective translation strategies of Chinese forklore. The finding is as follows: Some mistranslations couldn't obscure Howard Goldblatt's excellent version. He takes semantics, pragmatics and readers' aesthetics experience into consideration and adopts various strategies, including culture image illustration, explication and replacement, which show the meaning, ways and style of the expression of source texts. The effect of cultural fax is realized and inspirations on Chinese forklore translation are offered.
