Abstract: Perforator flap has enjoyed a wide popularity in tissue repair, however, its application on reconstruction of massive superficial defects has been impeded by the small diameter of perforator artery and the limited volume of usable flap. After an extensive review of literatures published recently, this article delineated an up-to-date progress in basic and clinical research on expansion of perforator flap vascular supply, including the perspective of vascular anatomy and flow characteristics of perforator flap as well as relevant therapeutic strategies to increase flap blood supply and promote tissue vascularization.
