On the Translation of Peking Opera as Local Knowledge and its Global Paths

Abstract:

Based on transknowletology, the paper probes into the translation and globalization paths of Peking Opera as local knowledge. It is found that there was a positive knowledge impact from Peking Opera knowledge to western theatre, which made the globalization of Peking Opera knowledge possible. While, translation definitely contributed to the globalization of Peking Opera knowledge. Specifically, Shih-IHsiungtransplanted Peking Opera knowledge into Lady Precious Streamby adding, which provided reference to western theatre performance and script writing and thus achieved globalization in a practical way. Scott presented Peking Opera knowledge in a comparatively systematic way by transferring the whole performance into his translation and the knowledge became global by ways of academic research.
