Abstract:

The emergence and development of both Chinese and Western philosophy are inseparable from the questioning of knowledge, which has promoted not only the production, dissemination, and application of new knowledge, but also the cultural exchange, mutual learning among civilizations, and the increasingly rapid progress of humanity. In this process, cross-linguistic, cross-cultural, and cross-civilization knowledge translation has played an unparalleled role. However, there are few achievements in philosophical discussions on “zhi” & “shi” and knowledge translation. Therefore, this paper attempts to discuss the Chinese characters “zhi” & “shi”, the English word “knowledge”, the evolution of meanings, the relationships between knowledge view and knowledge, “zhi” and “shi”, morality and wisdom from the perspectives of Chinese as well as western philosophy. On this basis, the author further discusses the relationships between “zhishi” and truth, “zhishi” and truth-seeking, as well as wisdom and goodness, hoping to help Transknowletology transmit from locally to globally as a new branch of universal translation studies.

Key words: philosophy, “zhi” & “shi”(knowledge), wisdom, Transknowletology
