Abstract:

The Tibetan Gnomic Verses full of profound philosophical thoughts with rich knowledge are a valuable treasure of Chinese culture. The Tibetan Gnomic Verses contain rich knowledge of geography and culture, religious culture and social culture, which is the true portrayal of Tibetan people’s wisdom and has high academic research value. With the continuous advancement and development of translating Chinese culture into foreign languages, the English translation of Tibetan Gnomic Verses has attracted many scholars’ attention. Guided by the theory of transknowletology, this paper explores the translator’s translation strategy and method selection in the English translation of Tibetan Gnomic verses from the translation criterion of “the true, the kind and the beautiful” so as to better transform “local knowledge” into “global knowledge” with a view to exploring the balanced-harmonious translation and making the translation of national classics more truthful, rigorous and richer and providing a new direction and thinking for the national classics to go global, and so as to make a modest contribution to forging a strong community for the Chinese nation and constructing a community with a shared future for mankind.
